Dr. Michael Smit is a board certified optometrist who received his
optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Smit was in
private practice in Denver, Colorado for several years prior to moving
to the Lakes Region and joining Laconia Eye in 2002. His focus is on
primary eye care including the non-surgical detection and treatment
of eye disease, examinations for glasses, and contact lens fitting. Dr.
Smit sees more challenging contact lens patients including dry
eyes, keratoconus and post surgical fitting. Sadly, on July 22, 2009,
Dr. Smit will be leaving Laconia Eye & Laser Center for Pacific
Northwest University in Washington to attend medical school. While he
will certainly miss the patients and friends that he will be leaving behind,
this is a wonderful opportunity for Dr. Smit to take the next step in his
career. Everyone at Laconia Eye & Laser Center wish him well in his new adventure. |

Dr. Anthony Zieja received his optometric degree from The New England
College of Optometry. Dr. Zieja is a member of Beta Sigma Kappa, the
national optometric honor society, and has also been recognized for his
clinical excellence with rigid gas permeable contact lenses. He enjoys what
he likes to call "family optometry": welcoming all contact lens fits, as
well as examinations for the assessment of ocular health and the need for
glasses for patients of all ages. Although originally from Western
Massachusetts, Dr. Zieja has spent his summers in the Lakes Region since his
youth and looks forward to joining the community year-round.
